I actually got the opposite thought about Saitama. In that moment instead of taking all the credit (which he really did do everything) for the victory he very unselfishly shared the credit with the heroes that got pummeled before he showed up. He played into the "cheating" notion that people thought of him so that the people wouldn't lose faith in the other heroes or in the Hero Association.
