As you stated, it’s true that King Harald and Canute were never at arms with each other. Canute was at war for the throne with the previously exiled king of England, King Ethelred. However, King Ethelred and his son both died due to a “mysterious illness”, making Canute the sole king of England. You can use your imagination as to how they died.
