Whilst back in the UK I got onto sorting out why the van’s RPMs were too high and burning through fuel.
There were a number of options but all expensive. 😑
I decided to go with the less mechanical & journey stopping option of digging out the old 16” wheels from “the other Sprinter”, having them sand blasted & powdercoated then slapping some michellin Agilis Cross Climate tyres on (same tyres as before as I think there are the muts nuts) I did want all terrains but being a twin rear wheel & a heavy old girl I’m still unsure in that area and didn’t want to create anymore problems for myself.
So two days ago the wheels went on and yet she looks bugger all different! 😂🤦♂️
From first glance anyway, Amber is alot taller now, the arches are filled out alot better and the ride is actually much smoother. The new ground clearance will definitely come in handy offroad.
But most importantly it achieved my aim and has brought the RPMs down by about 300rpm mid range, meaning at 60mph she’s back in a rev range that isn’t so uneconomical and I can actually reach 70mph.
Only time will tell if this was the route cause of my fuelling but at the moment it’s looking positive.
The old set funnily enough will be going to my friend with a gorgeous Mercedes 507D eco van, for the exact same reason, his van has tiny 14” wheels so he wants to size up too.
