I know what you mean about how vehicles have become stuffed with tech. My first car was a Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L. It had a reputation for burning out points in the distributor. I always carried a new spare plus a screwdriver and a set of feeler gauges. Whenever I swapped a set out I bought a new set the next day. Well done on you for identifying and sorting the problem. So pleased that that gave you a boost. I know what it feels like as I suffer from my own demons from time to time and when things go well I do get an uplift in my mood. My wife has just taken delivery of a Kia Sportage GT line S PHEV. It has so many sensors around the car and under the bonnet that Kia publish an emergency recovery instructions so that the AA/RAC etc know how to recover the vehicle correctly. No more hocking up a tow bar etc!
