Might wanna add Battle Royale to your list of foreign movies!

Great video, gents. Like the others mentioned, Korean films tend to blend different genres, which I love. Someone above recommended I Saw the Devil, and I’ll second that. You won’t be disappointed

Hey Guys please check out "War of the Gargantuas!!" An oldie from the TOHO Productions.. Part of the giant monster collection but very realistic and Super NARLEY AND BRUTAL...

WEEZER MANN

South Korea has some wicked animation right up there with Japan

WEEZER MANN

Its definitely a mash up of genres, at least from a European perspective. I'm not that familiar with Korean cinema, aside from the ones mentioned by some of the other patrons above, but its definitely a great viewing experience. I think the closest category we have is Folk Horror, as depicted by films as varied as Blood on Satan's Claw, The Wicker Man, Misommmar, The Ritual and now, on Sky/Now TV, the TV series The Third Day (bloody fantastic by the way) though this is obviously a Korean variation on the usual folk horror themes. Your video has reminded me that I should really watch this again. By the way, if you are interested in finding out more about Folk Horror, in all its variations, you shoild check out Folk Horror Revival, in particular the Facebook group, which has a lot of film and TV resources and reviews.

Really enjoying this new series on non-English movies! I know subtitles are difficult for many viewers, so I'm glad to see a channel dedicating some time to these films. I'd like to add some recommendations for non-English movies you might not have seen before - Moolaadé (Senegal, 2004), Om Shanti Om (India, 2007), Pather Panchali (India, 1955), Liz and the Blue Bird (Japan, 2018), Cure (Japan, 1997), The Wind Will Carry Us (Iran, 1999).

Great reactions guys. I watched The Wailing last year & agree with most of what you were saying. I didn't know which sub-genre of horror I was watching but enjoyed figuring it out anyway. Since then, I 've seen several South Korean films and some of them also had what seemed to be mash-ups of genres. I'm currently watching Nowhere To Hide, which starts out as a police investigation into a murder that combines film noir with Kung Fu & slapstick comedy. Cool film with barely a wisp of a plot. I agree with yomvanhaver about The Host -- a great creature feature

Bong Joon-ho, the director of Parasite, directed The Host ; a great monster film ! and superb film about family.

Two French Bears React

In France, they called it The Strangers (in english, not even a french name) ^^ nevermind the french.

I was exactly the same as you when I saw this I had no idea who to trust. Apparently if you are up on your south Korean folk law (which i'm not) it's obvious who's good and who's bad. But i'm glad i'm not because trying to figure it out was far more compelling. Other south Korean films I think you might like for the future The Chaser and I saw the devil and Train to Busan.
