The Thing (1982) INCREDIBLE MOVIE REACTION! | FIRST TIME WATCHING!!

Comments

There is the television version that did have an introduction to the characters but it was done very poorly

Anakin Starkiller

I don't think this is better than Psycho but I do think this hands down the best alien invasion movie made

Anakin Starkiller

Rob Bottin was really one of last true practical effects artists. I believe this is his best work hands down along with The Howling and Total Recall.

Anakin Starkiller

Yes sadly he passed away this year

This is one of my all time favourites, owned it on every format. Everything was near enough perfect from the cast, effects and story. Other John Carpenter movies you want to try are In the Mouth of Madness, big trouble in little China, They Live and Prince of Darkness. The prequal was crap from what I remember, the effects were extremely poor. The effects crew went on to so the practical work for Harb Down which has a similar concept to the thing, worth a watch too.

They all work now. Thanks for the help!

They should be working now, please let us know if you still cannot view the videos ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wow. Iโ€™m honestly shocked how quick you guys replied. Thanks for the assist lads

We know the issue youโ€™re talking about, it is because we have scheduled the video on YouTube, which is why you cannot view them on here, we will sort this out now for you, give us a moment ๐Ÿ˜Š

When I try to watch any of the reactions it tells me โ€œnull If the owner of this video has granted you access, please sign in.โ€ Not sure how to fix this as the reactions worked fine in the past

Worth noting the score is actually famed composer Ennio Morricone, though he is doing his own John Carpenter impression as he wanted to complement his style

It's all good man at least we got something out of it.

Hi Matt, unfortunately the Shining had a big issue with syncing with our reaction, so it took a while for us to edit it down to produce just a normal reaction video, so unfortunately there wonโ€™t be a full length reaction video for this because of the syncing issue โ˜น๏ธ we do apologise for this, and I believe we released the first 2 episodes of our podcast for you guys in replacement of this which we hope would suffice but we understand your disappointment โ˜น๏ธ

Aye guys any chance we will see the full length to the shining?

The original source material didn't come from Carpenter but from the great and somewhat infamous science fiction writer and editor John W. Campbell Jr., whose story "Who Goes There?" was published in 1938. Of the 4 adaptations to film Carpenter's is probably the closest, the main difference being a much larger cast of characters in the story (40 or so people). It was first filmed in 1951 as THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (seen on television by the kids in HALLOWEEN); in that movie the Thing is a much more conventional monster and not a shapechanger. It was made again in 1972 as HORROR EXPRESS, which sets the action aboard a train traveling through Siberia. As you noted in your video the last version, the reboot/prequel in 2011, was intended to have practical FX to make it more resemble Carpenter's film, but producers overrode the wishes of the filmmakers and replaced it all in post-production with digital FX, apparently because they felt younger audiences will only sit still for CGI. If anyone is interested, the science fiction author Peter Watts wrote an award-winning short story called "The Things," retelling the events of this movie from the point of view of the Thing itself. This is one of my favourites that gets a rewatch every few years. It's fun to try and guess who is the thing at various points. There are interesting theories about that online. I've only seen the prequel once and didn't enjoy it. There were some good nods at recreating the Norwegian station, but they rely too much on bad CGI, so it becomes slick and sorta glossy. If they'd gone with practical effects I'd be more inclined to watch it along with the original. Really glad you both enjoyed it. Loved seeing your reaction and review. I'll rewatch alongside you when the full length goes up. It has been awhile.
