Bicycle Thieves (1948) SAD MOVIE REACTION! FIRST TIME WATCHING

Comments

For a non-horror film, It was very good and thought provoking.

Other Italian films to say away from would be "Cannibal Holocaust" and "Cannibal Ferox". I have never seen all of "Cannibal Holocaust", but there are scenes of animal brutality. I did try to watch "Cannibal Ferox", and I got to a scene with this cute animal (I think it was a wallaby) gets killed by a huge snake and the poor animal is screaming until it is eaten by the snake. I couldn't take anymore and stopped watching the film.

Another Italian film that seems to rear its ugly head is Peir Paolo Pasolini's "Salo or 120 Days of Sodom". I don't know if I would recommend it. It's probably the most perverse film I've ever seen. The director was murdered just a few weeks after it's release.

Horror request if they are not on your lists yet. Jeepers creepers 1&2, Blair witch project.

"You told me this was a feel good film." ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction and your insightful review at the end. Definitely check out more Italian Neorealism films in the future. Also check out Spirited Away (2001) if you want a feel good foreign film (it's feel good to me at least).

For another bike themed foreign language movie, I highly recommend Wadjda from Saudi Arabia in 2012 which won a Bafta for Best Foreign Film.

Damien Fenton

If youโ€™re going old movies, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE starring Carey Grant. Itโ€™s both a little creepy and funny.

I really enjoyed your reactions, very thoughtful and intelligent. It's nice to switch it up a bit from the horror. I also enjoyed seeing you two in black-and-white (like the world used to be in the '40s). Shaun's "pasta on pizza" made me laugh out loud, as did Tom's incredulous reaction. A suggestion for a future foreign film reaction: Ingmar Bergman's "Fanny and Alexander" from 1982, though it is long at just over 3 hours (and that's the edited version, cut down from over 5 hours). A beautiful and occasionally surreal experience.
