Reacting To Young Royals Season 2 (& Season 1 recap!)

Comments

Same haha

Megan Brady

Hi, Michael. Have just been watching something on YouTube speculating about a possible season 3 in autumn of 2023! Who knows, but wouldn’t that be great? ☺️

Graham & Ruth May

Hi, Hanna. Yeah, I love the music in both season 1 and 2, but especially 2. I now have a very long Young Royals playlist! 🥰

Graham & Ruth May

I literally can not wait until you post your reaction to season 2! It’s definitely a different take and I know you’ve watched already but I really want to hear what’s going through your brain!

Taylor Ekart

I loved S2 and feel like it just gets better for every rewatch. Agree with you all, Edvin and omar really stepped up their game with the acting. And the music was once again so carefully chosen. Side note, as a swede its so fun to see these artists (Elias, Skott, Lova, Hannes etc) reach a bigger audience alongside all the other acts. Thanks to you all for this space by the way, such a lovely community!

Hanna

And so say all of us. Sadly, it probably wouldn’t make any impact on the empty-headed idiots behind Kit’s problems.

Graham & Ruth May

I just watched a fairly recent one with them which was very entertaining, Edvin and Omar talking mostly about season 2, but they were pretty careful about avoiding spoilers. A lot of light-hearted ribbing of each other and some interesting insights into season 1 too. Omar claims to have watched individual episodes in season 1 many times, unlike Edvin. ☺️

Graham & Ruth May

Just to add to my comment above, that particular interview with Edvin has the highest viewing figures EVER from all of the Tom & Petter podcasts -- about 250,000 views to date! I've watched it several times - it's brilliant!

Michael

I'd just love to see all four of them meeting up and all hugging each other. The world needs to see that!

Michael

And so has Omar. ❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Can’t wait to see them!!

Taylor Ekart

I can’t find anything about Kit pulling out of season 3 of Heartstopper, but both he and Joe have quit twitter and don’t intend to go back.

Graham & Ruth May

Actually it’s not quite true about there being no steamy scenes. No spoilers but I certainly got goosebumps more than once. Also Omar’s song actually made me cry and I seldom weep over music. His voice is beautiful and my hair actually stood on end. ❤️🫠

Graham & Ruth May

Edvin has sent Kit a message of support, I saw it yesterday. ❤️

Graham & Ruth May

I tried to spread it out, but I watched the second season over 4 days. I watched, as I did the first viewing of season 1, with dubbing on. All the main characters do the English subbing for their characters. I look forward to JRL's reaction videos, and a second watch with sub-titles on.

Graham & Ruth May

Oh no, I really hope that it isn’t true. Poor Kit. My heart aches just thinking about this. He has to do whatever feels right to him but in my opinion, there simply couldn’t be another Nick than Kit. Let’s just hope that it’s only a rumour and presumably Kit himself, Alice or someone connected with Heartstopper may issue a statement at some point if it is actually true. Just makes me so angry. Thank goodness he has support from Joe and the rest of the cast and everyone connected with the show as well as, I am sure, his family.

Graham & Ruth May

Ruth - just heard a very worrying rumour on a Youtube discussion about Kit's recent problem with the social media harrassment that he's been receiving lately and that is that he has pulled out of season 3 of 'Heartstopper' as a result. I really hope this rumour isn't true.

Michael

Yes, that’s right, Michael.I think Edvin was hinting at the possibility in a recent interview when he talked about season 2 being left at the point where Wilhelm is just beginning a certain journey. Can’t say any more for fear of spoilers…I read yesterday that Kit Connor has been outed as bisexual by the breaking dam of huge social media pressure on him to make some sort of statement. Poor guy had already stated in a previous interview that he was comfortable in his sexuality and did not choose to label it, especially for public consumption. Joe Locke went on social media to send Kit a message saying he was proud of him for stating that everyone who had pressured him until it was impossible to stay private had totally missed the whole point of Heartstopper. I think Kit has a wise head on his shoulders but he’s still very young and I just hope that he keeps an even keel and takes what steps he can to protect himself. Edvin and Omar do seem quite media savvy and they are slightly older, also Omar in particular has experienced a lot of public adulation since he was originally in a boy band; not saying it’s any easier for them, but I don’t feel as anxious about their ability to cope.

Graham & Ruth May

If they are going to follow on with a season 3, they will need to make a decision very soon and start production very soon as the boys are not getting any younger. Both Simon and Wilhelm are playing the parts of 16 year olds and I'm guessing in a season 3 they will be representing 17 year olds. Edvin is 20 in a few months time and Omar is 24. Heartstopper have overcome any ageing problems to a certain extent as they are filming the next 2 seasons back to back.

Michael

dropped on Tuesday, so if that’s anything to go by, I wouldn’t be surprised…

Graham & Ruth May

Actually, now I have finished watching season 2 for the second time, I am beginning to think that there are definite pointers for another season at the end of episode 6 but I won’t go into them now to avoid spoilers and will save them for later. As you have probably seen, online comments are going absolutely wild about season 2 and calling for a season 3 and Young Royals season 2 is currently in the top 10 of tv shows, already at number 9 since it

Graham & Ruth May

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtsPICZc-Iw Not Young Royals but very recent interview with Joe Locke and Kit Connor with no spoilers for season 2 of Heartstopper. Interesting how much more confident Joe seems in interviews these days and Kit confirming that he sees himself as an introvert doesn’t come as a surprise to me after seeing how shy he appears to be in the Tobie behind the scenes content.

Graham & Ruth May

I was so nervous. I kept putting off watching season 2 after it dropped because I loved season 1 so much I wondered if it would measure up (although I have great faith in Lisa Ambjörn). And it was worth the wait. Lisa and the boys and the whole team have sure delivered. Hello season 3!

Dennis Verner

I have been sooo good, it came out yesterday and so far I have only watched the first episode 😊

Audrey Gunn

Sorry, a lot of things that could be explored in another season but equally, in some ways, I would be happy for it to end where it does.

Graham & Ruth May

Michael, the way season 2 ends, it could go either way, I think, either finishing there or a season 3. I can think of quite a lot of things r

Graham & Ruth May

I agree! Was kinda worried this season wouldn't live up to the hype of season 1, but honestly in my opinion I think it does & may even top it too!

Megan Brady

Agreed on both counts. I wasn’t sure if season 2 could possibly top season 1, but I think it does. ❤️🫠

Graham & Ruth May

Same, yes, yes and same! Amazing.

Graham & Ruth May

I promised myself I would not binge season 2. But I couldn't help myself. What an excellent season. What an exceptional series. I can't wait to watch again with all of you.

jennifer

Yes, everyone is great but Edvin and Omar are even more amazing. I am way too invested in this series but I love it!

Dennis Verner

OMG! I love season 2. Don't know if we'll get a season 3 but there is plenty for it.

Dennis Verner

Just finished watching season 2. Oh my goodness - you're all in for a real treat. Personally, I can't see a season 3 although it would be great if there was one! AMAZING performances by all the actors involved, but particularly Edvin and Omar.

Michael

I hit play at 12:01 am and went to bed at around 4:30 am 🤪 TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!

Laura Ibarra

Me, too. I am such a hopeless case that I got up at 6am today.🙃 I agree, I am blown away too. I will just say, no spoilers but it was worth getting up early!🫠

Graham & Ruth May

Guys . . . I just binged S2, & OMFG I am once again incredibly blown away by this show. You're all in for one hell of a wild ride!

Megan Brady

How interesting that it’s exactly the opposite for me and yes, I am sure you’re right about there being a lot of cultural differences that affect the ways in which viewers react to a series. I feel as if I could walk into the Heartstopper school as a teacher and feel right at home, I have taught several Charlies, definitely several Harrys and a couple of Bens. There’s only one Nick, Nelson, though and he’s in the show. Well, there could only be one Nick, couldn’t there? 🥰

Graham & Ruth May

This is kind of interesting. I grew up in Sweden and everything about YR is very relatable and authentic to me.. (although I did not go to a boarding school, I don’t even think we have any of those), while school experiences in HS and many american high school dramas often feel very polished and too colorful to be real to me. There are (obviously) a lot of cultural differencies that affect the way you percieve a series.. Its like I have never met a Nick or a Charlie, but Wilhelm is the typical boy next door 🤷🏻‍♀️

annanas

Just posted book recommendation on the Let’s Get to Know Each Other page, for anyone who enjoys crime fiction.

Graham & Ruth May

Really hoping we are not going down a love triangle route with Marcus. That would seem too predictable for such a riveting series, plus I am not sure if I can take it! 🥺

Graham & Ruth May

I would love to see you react to some behind the scenes content and interviews of Edvin and Omar on here! The podcasts people have mentioned are such a good look into their individual personalities, and I particularly really loved and enjoyed the one Edvin did on his own, it was so funny and hilarious! He talks about being a child actor, how he got his start, managing school + being in the industry from a young age, meeting Omar + the audition process, scenes that were improvised, the blow up success of YRs & how he felt about it, still being in highschool (at the time of recording) & his experience with that as the show became a hit, etc. It's all super super fascinating & interesting in my opinion! You can see it here: https://youtu.be/MxHNfIVTCSI Would love to see you react to it as some extra content maybe?? <3

Megan Brady

Simon is there. You can hear him singing in his room as Sara opens her letter. And, he is about to meet Markus!!

Dennis Verner

I agree, Lane, that Heartstopper is very relatable and maybe I partly feel that way because it’s set in a British secondary school and I taught in that environment all my working life. Nick and Charlie, not to mention Ben and Harry, remind me so much of that time. Young Royals feels very emotionally charged, in a different key to Heartstopper and much more painful. I suspect that I am going to revisit Heartstopper moments after each episode of Young Royals season 2 for some therapeutic, calming optimism.🙃

Graham & Ruth May

I think it’s easy to forget that among all the other things Wilhelm is dealing with, one of the most personal is his grief over the death of his brother, with whom he was clearly very close. I think that shows very well in the scene in Erik’s bedroom. Yes, those first four minutes go by quickly, and as others have said, the trailer certainly promises a lot of interesting drama in season two. I think it varies from person to person which show between this one and Heartstopper is more relatable. Personally I find Heartstopper more relatable because they are more everyday people, and to me it’s harder to relate to royalty and a much more charged situation. But that’s just me, and I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer to which is more relatable. The comparison between Young Royals and Heartstopper when it comes to the subject of homophobia is an interesting one, and that makes me even more want you to watch season three of Skam, which differs from both of them in that regard. I am also a big fan of the Thai show Bad Buddy (I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before), which is another that exists in a world that seems to be free of homophobia but uses a different kind of conflict from any of the others. I think all four shows are well written, well directed, and center around couples played by actors who have terrific chemistry with each other. I hope you end up being able to react to all of them eventually.

Lane Wright

Soo can’t wait for tmrw but unfortunately I will be at work so will have to wait til evening to binge it 😢

Audrey Gunn

It’s a bit obvious I know, but couldn’t Wilhelm have just blocked August on his phone if he didn’t want to hear from him?

Michael

Disappointed of Cornwall re. no intimate steamy scenes but hope at least intimate connection between Wilhelm and Simon 😏

Graham & Ruth May

As in my personal happiness

Graham & Ruth May

And mine too!❤️

Graham & Ruth May

Edvin and Omar have indicated in an interview (see the recent Tom & Petter podcast) that there are no steamy intimate scenes in season 2. Looks like it’s dramageddon all the way! Talking of the Tom & Petter podcasts, if you haven’t seen it already, I would highly recommend you watch the one from about a year ago where Edvin is interviewed on his own with the guys. It’s very funny and brings out the best of Edvin’s personality.

Michael

It's going to be great to see Wilhelm in revenge era and using his status to humiliate August. I'm looking forward to Omar singing as I believe Simon writes a song that's going to be in the show.

Jayne Riley

Me, neither, though I am definitely not ready! I think I have said this before but I really admire the cinematography of this show and in the teaser, the contrast between the soft, warm hazy dream sequence and the much colder, harsher moments that follow, of the reality of the stark castle environment are so well shot. The tender, passionate yearning for Simon juxtaposed with a mess of clothes in a huge, unfriendly room and the mundane noise of a maid hoovering. Wow. Says so much within mere seconds. So glad you noticed the goosebumps! ☺️I agree that we’re in for a lot of drama and the symbolism of shutting the door in his mother’s face says everything about Wilhelm’s intentions in season 2. I just hope he has the strength to carry those intentions through, for his own sake and Simon’s. I said in a previous comment that Wilhelm is in an impossible situation and that perhaps that will drive him to do the impossible. 🤞 I am guessing that he’s at least going to have Felice as a strong ally now, given her actions in helping him in episode 6. Burning the portion of the photo showing August speaks for itself! Hope he burns it ALL down, as per the lyrics of ‘Revolution’, the song playing over the final shots of season 1. It’s the only way forward that extends any prospect of personal happiness.

Graham & Ruth May

It's team Simon for me all the way too. I love Wille but since he comes from a place of extreme wealth and privilege I have always felt so much more protective of Simon, he's such a wonderful guy and a kind soul, that mess with the drugs notwithstanding. My heart will break for him once he finds out about Sara's betrayal. I'm sure she won't be honest with him and he'll find out in some super dramatic way... because drama. In the teaser the letter Sara receives is the letter of acceptance to Hillerska, she's gonna be a boarder in season 2, so August came through I guess... ? Have you seen the trailer for Season 2? It's wild.

Ivalani

If you think the first four minutes were good wait until you see the trailer it was amazing it really made me excited for season 2. I can't wait to watch s2 tomorrow. I have the day off work so I can watch it all. There are some great interviews you can watch with the cast . There's a podcast Interview with Edvin and Omar that's just been released on YouTube. It's a really funny Interview with the two of them. https://youtu.be/6wzOT2-xE2g. Netflix Nordic released a q and a video in English yesterday. https://youtu.be/uLQEVwrlAc4
