2023-01-06 21:48:11 +0000 UTCOnce I talked with a man from Holland, and he told me EVERYONE in Holland speaks English, in addition to their native Dutch. They have to, they deal with so many English speaking business people and tourists. Students in Sweden at the educational and social level we're seeing would definitely be fluent in English. Oh yes, the nobility, the aristocracy, they've carved out a place in there too. Now I'm not putting forward some theory about the show. That's for Jackie to do. Just a factoid I thought might be interesting.

2022-10-06 16:02:25 +0000 UTCJust to add to this - Omar speaks fluent Spanish and learnt the Swedish language after moving to Sweden with his mother. I guess that his perfect English was taught to him both during his early years in Venezuela and then during his schooling in Sweden.

If taken by someone neurotypical, it has a stimulating effect like methamphetamins, i.e. better concentration, less sleep needed, feeling peppy and energetic. It can also be pretty addictive. Madison is speaking English (I think), because she understands Swedish but is self-conscious, because its not her native language - shes from the US. I knew someone like that at uni. They understood German perfectly (they had too, the lectures were in German) but they preferred talking in English, because it was easier.

2022-10-02 20:42:57 +0000 UTCOmar is 4 years older than Edvin. When filming of YR started, Edvin was 17 and Omar was 21. As of today (03-10-22), Edvin is 19 and Omar is either 23 or 24. Edvin's 20th birthday is coming up shortly.

2022-10-01 03:51:09 +0000 UTCI was a bit confused about Maddie speaking English, too, but the explanation made good sense. I’ve noticed that when I have heard the actors on the show speaking in English, they are often very fluent (Edvin sounds very American to me, and I understand that is pretty much what a Swedish accent speaking English sounds like). I was surprised when I first learned that Omar is actually four years older than Edvin; he really looks younger. It’s very interesting to me to compare “Young Royals” to “Heartstopper“ and the third season of “Skam,” because they are all excellent with terrific acting, but each has its own unique feel to it. I’m also a big fan of the Thai series “Bad Buddy,” which again has a very different feel (it’s characters are in college rather than high school, which makes it not strictly comparable), but I also find it of great interest.

I do hope my will power holds out and that I don’t cave in and watch ahead. I’m occupying my time with Heartbreak High, which I think you would enjoy immensely. Maybe work it in between the second series of Young Royal and series 2 of Heartstopper? Another cliffhanger ending! Grrr. At least this time we got the kiss. Lol.

I have to add that Omar must be one of the most good looking guys in the known universe. Or is this just me? 🥰🥹😂

It was pitched to the writer Lisa Ambjorn as an Elite or Riverdale type show Lisa then rewrote the story. It was written by a woman and also directed by a woman. When they filmed the show at the end of 2020 Edvin was 17 and Omar was 22. Edvin has been acting since he was 5 years old and this was Omar's first acting role. August is talking ADHD medication as if you don't have ADHD it acts as a stimulant. Maddie is speaking English as she is American one of her parents is Swedish. Maddie understands Swedish but feels embarrassed about Swedish accent. Sarah (Simon's sister) is a year older than him but is repeating the year because she was bullied at her last school and stopped going. Simon and Sarah's mother is from a Spanish speaking country the actress herself is from a Puerto Rico background. Omar was born in Venezuela and moved to Sweden age 6.
