Foregone Fables Dust Alloys Guide - Obsidian

It has its strengths, but not often does it possess a place of honor in a huntsman or huntress' arsenal. However, Crystal Dust can be improved on in more than one way. Combining it with Flame Dust creates something that is often overlooked, but has immense power: Obsidian.
Obsidian Dust is rare to find in nature and is mostly created by forging. It usually comes in liquid form. It's quite unspoken of much like Glass Dust, but is favorable by some specialists as an anti-personnel or anti-tank armament. One of the main usages of Crystal Dust is to create Obsidian Dust.
Obsidian Dust works in a way that is nearly identical to normal Glass Dust; the difference, being Dust, is the material produced. Obsidian, unlike regular glass, is a special type of volcanic glass that is black and not transparent, but is far more durable, and even more so, it is the sharpest natural material in Remnant. Having edges that are thin enough to pass through a D.N.A. coil, Obsidian can cut through Grimm - and human Aura - with ease.
Injecting Obsidian Dust into human flesh causes an effect similar to Glass Dust, minus the fragility and transparency. It transforms the user's body into solid obsidian, allowing them to protrude spikes of obsidian from their body and fire them at enemies, and increasing their strength and defense. It also gives the user high levels of resistance to heat and fire.
Obsidian Dust has the same applications as Crystal Dust, such as creating sharp fragments and objects made of obsidian. It can also create slash projectiles or barriers, and in conjunction with Lava Dust, the obsidian can be transformed into lava; some users use those types to create a weapon made of obsidian that can instantaneously turn into lava or fire. Users of Obsidian Dust can encase an enemy in obsidian, and it can also create shields. At its utmost potential, a user can create animated statues from obsidian, essentially creating strong soldiers that will fight by their side.
In spite of being one of the stronger types of Dust out there, Obsidian Dust is hardly recognized by mainstream huntsmen or huntresses, and its lethality to both humans and Grimm makes it appeal less for people who claim to be heroes. As such it has little symbolic meaning to it, but one such manifestation would be a symbol of attack power and offense, as opposed to Diamond Dust, which would be a clear symbol of defense. Both types are produced from the same Glass Dust, as with the double-edged sword that is human intelligence and creativity. While many know that it can be used for both creation and destruction, few realize that these two aspects are in fact one and the same.
