Hi everyone,
today I wanted to do something a little different from the usual news segment since I don't really have a lot new things to report on update 0.80 anyway. Things are mostly going well, I'm currently re-rendering some scenes in order to improve them a bit, post-editing in photoshop, yadda yadda yadda, nothing out of the ordinary. I still have to write the code and dialogue for the last few remaining scenes as well as searching, downloading and adding new background music tracks which is usually the most annoying thing left to do.
The next section will contain possible spoilers for SITC 2. If you prefer to avoid all kinds of spoilers and go in blind, you can safely scroll down to the previews for update 0.80. Sorry, but neither Patreon nor SubscribeStar offer spoiler tags unfortunately, which is kinda weird in this day and age.
I wanted to share some ideas I have for Summer In The City 2: Sapphic Boogaloo (no worries, that's not the official tagline, haha) and hear your opinion on them if you have one.
I was contemplating for quite a while now if I should get rid of the sprite method. You know... where characters appear in front of a static background rather than having unique renders for each situation? I wanted to do a poll originally, asking you what you'd think about it. I came to the conclusion that it'd be the best course for me, and I hope for you too, to get rid of them altogether for season two. The reasoning behind this is that I'm aiming for an increase in quality as well as a streamlined development process. There are many players who seem to have an issue with this kind of technique and I personally prefer unique renders myself. I originally used the sprite method only due to hardware restrictions and less so for artistic reasons, but these restrictions have been eliminated now that I have a new powerful PC to work with. And jumping back and forth from coding the sprites method to coding unique render scenes has also been quite annoying, so changing to unique renders makes writing the code and putting everything into place much easier. It's basically like cutting a movie from start to finish. I hope this isn't too much of a controversial decision. I'm sure there are some of you who will miss the original sprites method but give me a chance to prove myself and my decision and vision. Summer's story will be more immersive if I can pull off what I'm aiming for.
Now let's talk about the episode structure... or update structure, however you may call it. I would like Summer to spend a bit more time with each of her friends in order the flesh out their relationships and personalities. I was thinking about focusing on one or two particular big events per update, connected by shorter scenes that will move the story forward. This way the characters have more time to "breathe" if you know what I mean. There are some examples already in season one, like the somewhat longer night club scene for instance. I've already written down some ideas for cool and naughty big and small events. I will list them down below (not in chronological order):
==========================================================================

Thanks for the suggestions on Discord. I modified the name a bit and came up with this one. Hope you like it.

=======================================================
Those are mere ideas as of yet. Some of these ideas may not be realized, others will be 100% in the game. I left out ideas that would spoil big surprising events of course. Consider it a little appetizer for what's to cum.
This is all like a dream come true thanks to your support. I love how invested many of you are in Summer's journey and I genuinely appreciate all your kind words and the amazing ratings our pumpkin from hell receives. It's a massive boost in motivation, every single time. As always, much love!

P.S. Here are some more previews for 0.80. Waiting is almost over.
