Author's Note: Hey, patrons! New thing, next day, big badda boom, gettin' shit done. This is just a shorty but I figured I'd upload it right away. Like the last Stranglethorn chapter, this one's just story but is leading up to something a bit more exciting in the upcoming next chapter....

Anyway, this is chapter four. The rest of it is on Hentai-Foundry, here, but I'll be uploading all new chapters to Patreon first. Happy fapping!

[just story] [no smex] [sorry] [deal with it]

One year ago....

“The art of deception, my dear girl, is keeping the audience’s eyes on one hand...” The Amazing Mumbo’s massive rictus grin only seemed to widen as he tightened the large, white glove on one hand, waggling his fingers in front of a bound Raven. His voice grew a little more sinister, then, twirling his magician’s wand between the fingers of his other hand before pointing it at the prone Teen Titan. “...While the other hand does the magic. You unbelievers are always standing in the way of quality entertainment, and I think it’s time... that... changed.” The tip of his wand began to glow faintly with arcane energy as he began to speak. “Kalama-ka--”

“Your fly’s undone,” Raven deadpanned, nodding in the direction of the magician’s pants and causing him to pause, looking down for just long enough to get clubbed in the back of the head with an enormous red baseball bat.

As the Amazing Mumbo dropped face-first to the ground, causing the bright colors and stark shadows of his pocket-realm to swirl and collapse, the pale-skinned, black-haired reserve Titan named Argent emerged to loom over his fallen form. “Stage magician done in by slapstick. Now there’s quality entertainment for ya.” The bat faded from her hands, dissipating back into the scarlet energy from which it had been formed.

“Took you long enough,” the sorceress sighed, squirming idly against the physical ropes that, despite Mumbo’s current unconsciousness, had not dissipated along with everything else. The thick silk cords were tight enough to give Argent a generous view of Raven’s unitard-clad figure, her perky teen breasts squeezed appealingly by the ropes that bound her and her arms behind her back, leaving her pleasantly helpless. “You gonna get me out of this?”

“Where are the other Titans, luv?” Argent noted, looking around at the dimly-lit, empty fairground that Mumbo’s Realm had reverted into. “Not just you here, is it?” Definitely not stalling for time so that her eyes could linger on the half-demon’s tied figure.

“Actually, yes. Mumbo has... issues, with me. I try not too think about it too hard.”

“And ‘e managed to get you here on your own without alerting the others? Gotta admit, I’m a bit impressed. Not many baddies go for that one.” Argent smirked getting down on her knees next to Raven’s bound body, using her powers to create a serrated blade out of red light and starting to slowly saw through the ropes, making sure to be careful so as not to accidentally cut the girl beneath them.

“How did you get here, anyway?” Raven murmured, doing her best to hold still. Argent’s black tank-top billowed out slightly as the reserve heroine leaned down, giving the sorceress an appreciated glimpse at the bra beneath and the small, pale cleavage it displayed. Willing herself not to blush and only partially succeeding, she tried to distract herself from the view... despite not actually looking away.

Argent looked up with a little grin as she snipped one of the ropes away, giving Raven a bit more wiggle-room but nonetheless leaving several ropes intact. “Accident, actually. Mumbo’s not the greatest at pickin’ up his breadcrumbs, is he? I saw like three white rabbits and started to get the impression something mighta been up.” She paused, tilting her head and shifting a little closer to hook her hard-light blade under one of the ropes, bringing her face a bit closer to Raven’s. The sorceress squirmed slightly, trying not to acknowledge or show the increasing discomfort she felt with the rogue hero’s closeness. “Gotta say, luv, I’m glad I found ya when I did.”

“I, um... didn’t know you were back in town,” Raven murmured, stalling for time while the ropes were cut and hoping Argent couldn’t hear her heart pounding. She had to keep herself contained, had to stay empty, neutral. Any slip, any misstep, and her father would take control. That was something she couldn’t risk, no matter how pale and creamy the perky slopes of Argent’s cleavage looked, drawing her gaze in no matter how adamantly she attempted to pull it away. “Anything happen to, um... bring you back...?”

“Actually, I...” she breathed in, then paused, looking down for a moment to undo another rope, the last in the series and finally freeing Raven completely. The sorceress didn’t move though, now all but pinned beneath Argent and looking up into the other teen girl’s big, scarlet eyes. “Ugh, I’m gonna sound like a right git sayin’ this, but I came to check up on you.” She immediately chastised herself, sitting up now but straddling the demoness’s lap. “Right git is right. S’just, I kinda felt like we never got time to gab and whatnot, not while we were doing the whole satellite Titans thing with the stupid handhelds.”

“That was such a bad season,” Raven agreed.

“But I really felt like we coulda gotten on alright if I’d stuck around. And I wasn’t gettin’ up to much in Liverpool -- Mad Mod’s been behind bars for a good few months now -- so I figured I’d see what Jump City was on about.” She bit her lower lip slightly, tilting her head the other way and letting her eyes meet Raven’s. “Looks like we’re off to a great start, eh?”

“Yeah. Great start,” Raven said softly, looking back up at the other goth girl, their faces closer than ever now. She wasn’t exactly experienced in any sort of romantic or courting situations, but it didn’t take Don Juan DeMarco to know where this was heading. The closeness, the shy-yet-affectionate advances, and most importantly, the fact that Argent still hadn’t gotten off of her lap. Still -- it didn’t matter what she wanted, or how she felt. Raven was the daughter of Trigon, and the daughter of Trigon didn’t get to have desires or pleasure. “Listen, I--”

The sorceress suddenly paused, jarring Argent off of her lap to wrap a globe of negative energy around Mumbo’s head as the villainous magician began to regain consciousness. His eyes widened, and a silent scream of horror escaped his mouth, the sound contained by the globe as he experienced who could say what kind of nightmarish terror. It was only a few seconds before he was unconscious once more, passed out from what he’d gone through in such a quick time. Raven let out a sigh, releasing the ball of darkness and letting the “Amazing” Mumbo slump to the ground, peaceful once more. “I’ll pick up his wand on the way back to Titans Tower. Not like he won’t somehow get it again, but it should give us some time to focus on whatever villain pops up next week.”

Argent chewed her bottom lip anxiously, sitting up on her knees and looking from Mumbo’s re-fallen form, back to the cloakless Raven. Pausing a moment, she finally attempted to steer things back the way they’d been going, determined not to let the distraction intervene. “What was that you were sayin’, luv?”

“You don’t know me, Argent. You haven’t been here like the other Titans have, you don’t know... me.” Raven recoiled slightly, sighing and standing up fully now. “I’m not like you. Even if it might seem that way.”

The other girl shuffled awkwardly to her feet, glancing from Mumbo’s prone form back to Raven. She looked uncomfortable for a moment, like she was going to say something, but then paused. Eventually, the sorceress continued. “Maybe a time will come when I can have... friends,” her tone made it quite clear that she understood what Argent was looking for -- not just a friend. The fact that she still wasn’t sure how she felt about girls and boys didn’t factor into anything; just the fact that if Raven dropped her guard, the planet she’d sworn to protect would be the one that paid for it.

“I... I mean, I didn’t--” Argent attempted, only to find Raven already starting to back away from her, pulling away, her gaze flickering back to the other side of Jump City. Back to Titans Tower and safety from this situation. “I just thought we could be mates, is all,” the other heroine mumbled.

“Maybe someday,” Raven admitted. “But... not now. I’m sorry.” Without another word, the half-demon floated into the air, taking Mumbo’s wand with her and drifting away into the night, like a specter against the moonlight. Leaving Argent standing on the fairground gravel under the stars, looking up at the other girl as she escaped from her.

o-o-o-o-o-o-o

But time passed, and things did not always remain the way they had once been. With the Titans’ victory over Trigon, the new lack of an incoming apocalypse had allowed Raven to be looser with her emotions, able to be warmer in spite of her lack of practice at being so. The wheel turned, and a year passed.

In the midst of Blackfire’s arrival at the Titans Tower, waging an impressively quick cold war with her younger sister’s morality -- not to mention Jinx’s appearance on the scene, leading to her new, budding relationship with Raven herself -- a new development was arising. An old friend that had returned, discouraged, to England. An ally who had never truly forgotten her feelings for the demonic sorceress. A girl who, despite being pushed away once before, had managed to hold out hope that a day would come where she might be accepted among the other Titans.

Taking a long puff off of her cigarette, Argent pulled her longcoat around her as she perched at the tallest building in Jump City, looking out at the iconic T shape of Titans Tower. She’d find the other heroes there. She’d find Raven. And most importantly, she’d find a great deal more than she’d bargained for....
