Urril Apocrypha - Gods
Added 2018-05-12 22:28:08 +0000 UTCThe Urril Apocrypha will be clumps of world-building information that I add to the world of Urril, in which Dungeons and Dickgirls takes place. I'll add more details, sections, and errata as I come up with them, but for now we're starting with something the world has been desperately in need of more of -- gods.

The Bright One, God of Light
- Alignment: Neutral Good
- Domains: Light, Life, Protection
- Other Names: Lord Unending
- Symbol: Red star
First of the Five, the Bright One is worshiped by the majority of humans and common city folk. A massive and powerful god, he is often followed out of convenience, for he demands little of his subjects beyond acknowledgement of his presence. In return, he is an aloof and distant deity.
Metris, God of Progress
- Alignment: Neutral
- Domains: Ambition, Forge, Knowledge
- Other Names: Gazing One
- Symbol: Staring blue eye
Second of the Five, Metris is the god of progress, research, and knowledge. In place of cathedrals, academies are erected in his name. The Gazing One watches over all of his disciples with an impartial eye, with little care as to how new inventions and breakthroughs are utilized -- only that they come to pass. Clerics of Metris are known as professors, but many wizards, artificers, and other craftsmen advance their research in his name. His worship is most common in gnomish and dwarven lands.
The Embrace, Goddess of Security
- Alignment: Chaotic Good
- Domains: Trickery, Arcana, Protection
- Other Names: The Lover, Feathered Sorceress
- Symbol: Bright green pair of wings folded across each other
Third of the Five, the Embrace is a goddess that sees freedom and security not as exclusive rivals, but as a single end. Through freedom from threat and restriction alike, her followers say, true peace can be found. As such, she finds herself often worshiped by vagabonds, outlaws, and bards. Her worship is most common in elven and halfling lands.
Ou, God of Bedlam
- Alignment: Chaotic Evil
- Domains: Death, Strength, Tempest
- Other Names: The Hunger, The Starved, The Maniac God
- Symbol: Fanged jaws against a black background
Fourth of the Five, Ou is the Maniac God, a ravening darkness that cannot be satisfied in its hunger for depravity and death. Though Ou is considered to be just as powerful as the rest of the Five, few worship him, and those who do rarely do so publicly. Orcs, monsters, death cults, assassins, certain berserkers, and other undesirables count themselves among his followers. Clerics of Ou call themselves Hungry Ones.
Amia, Goddess of War
- Alignment: Lawful Neutral
- Domains: War, Grave, Order
- Other Names: The Inevitable, Wheel of Pain, Our Lady
- Symbol: Gray wheel
Last and youngest of the Five, Amia represents war, but not its glory. Instead, she represents the inevitability and cyclical nature of conflict -- tradition, combat, and eventual death at the hands of the former. Despite being even more dispassionate than the Bright One, Amia attracts followers who commit themselves to tradition and war. Her worship is most common in dwarven and human lands.
Lloth, Queen of Spiders
- Alignment: Chaotic Evil
- Domains: Ambition, Trickery, Arcana
- Other Names: The Spider Queen
- Symbol: Spider
(Y’all know who Lolth is. Here.)
The White Beneath (lesser deity)
- Alignment: Unknown
- Domains: Nature, Solidarity, Zeal
- Other Names: Great Bright Thing, Big Bright
- Symbol: White collar with inverted spikes
A strange entity lurking beneath the network of goblin warrens and mountain paths, it is unknown whether the White Beneath is truly a god at all, and it is not counted among the Five. Worshiped almost exclusively by goblinoids, its desires are strange and largely unknown, but orgies and sacrifices of other intelligent races in its name are common.
