Riddles in the Dark #3 - Answer
Added 2021-11-30 05:27:11 +0000 UTCY'all are too clever for your own good. Not that you dominated this one as much as the last two, but the majority of you DID indeed get the answer right -- the correct answer is the Gold Chest.
This one is certainly tricky, though. While most riddles are solved by a single major realization, this one is a logic problem in disguise, and actually must be solved as one. To break it down and explain:
"A single thing I say is true." Hence, the rest must all be lies. So we have three statements given.
1. Iron chest bad
2. Iron chest good
3. Gold chest bad
Only one is true. So, if 1 is true, (iron chest bad), then 2 (iron chest good) must be false, which aligns. Likewise, 3 (gold chest bad) MUST necessarily also be false, meaning it must be the correct chest. This is the only solution with no conflicts. If 2 is true, then 3 must be false, but we know there is only one good chest, so that doesn't work. If 3 is true, then BOTH 1 and 2 must be false, which is not possible.
