5e Multiclassing Dip Guide
Added 2019-09-08 22:12:03 +0000 UTCSaw this stupid multiclassing guide online that was alarmingly dumb and bad. Decided to make my own, and figured I may as well share it here.
5. Monk -- As few as 2 levels in monk gives outstanding synergy with any wisdom-based class (cleric, druid, ranger, and even blood hunter), with ki abilities being flexible and worthwhile at any level and flat bonuses to AC and speed being invaluable. However, since their usefulness is limited beyond wisdom-based classes, they take up the rear slot.
4. Wizard -- Especially diviners and transmuters, anyone with a slight surplus of intelligence can throw in even as few as 2 wizard levels and get an incredible kickback. Ritual casting is easy and useful even at high levels, and wizards get notoriously good low-level school abilities, such as Portent.
3. Warlock -- At 2nd level you get two invocations, special abilities you can tailor to your pre-existing class, enhancing yourself in incredible ways. They also get excellent subclass abilities at first level, and third can get you an improved familiar! Absolutely worth dipping into if you have a cha of 13 or higher.
2. Rogue -- Sneak attacks, expertise, extra skills, cunning action, and excellent low-level subclass abilities. What's not to love? Cunning action, in particular, adds spectacular mobility to classes that might otherwise lack (and need) it, such as mainline combatants and all spellcasters. Special mention goes to the Arcane Trickster, which can take useful spells such as Find Familiar, Shield, or Disguise Self, WITHOUT an intelligence requirement.
1. Fighter -- Two words. Action. Surge. Along with a fighting style and proficiency with weapons and armor, fighter lends itself to literally any class and any playstyle. Even a wizard can use action surge to spellcast TWICE within the same turn, discounting bonus actions! Like the Arcane Trickster, special mention must once again be made for the Eldritch Knight, which gets a few extremely useful spells without an int expenditure -- so throwing 3 levels of fighter onto a druid, rogue, ranger, etc., not only gets you action surge, it gets you the Shield spell and a helpful familiar.
