2025-02-12 15:39:24 +0000 UTCI somehow missed this notification. :( That part with the bandit always makes me lol. "Why? Got yourself a little horsey friend? A pony all tricked out with bows?" ๐๐ Anyway, we've now been introduced to 'Dadrielle' as the fandom calls her. I think the name goes perfectly with her new look. Great to see Armand again. His scenes with Amarice were cute. Yeah, Xena's pregnancy was a shock. Tbh, I hate real life pregnancy inserts, and I especially dislike this one for reasons that will come up later. :/ Well at least Gabrielle finally has a horse and doesn't have to country hop on foot anymore.

2025-02-09 11:14:55 +0000 UTCThere are a lot of things going on in this episode. Gabrielle gets a horse, Armand shows back up, he has a thing with Americe, and Xena finds out she's pregnant, all in a town that is intended to portray an ancient Greek version of the Old West. (This universe's idea of ancient Greece, obviously.) They would do the same thing on Hercules two weeks later, so seemingly someone likes this idea. (Or wanted to get the most out of the budget.) Anyway, "When was the last time we saw Hercules?" is my line of the episode.

I will say that the 'biological father' is an unexpected...and pleasant surprise.

Rather than punishing your actress for it. *coughWhedoncough* Of course Tapert couldnโt exactly do that anyway since itโs his baby too. Also concealing it isnโt really for the best either. Again, referring to Wynonna Earp but with Nicole this time. The canon lesbian character. Nah, the best thing to do is to fully embrace it as an honest pregnancy.

2025-02-07 21:06:56 +0000 UTCThat one reaction from Amarice in โAnimal Attractionโ just after Xena reveals that sheโs pregnant. She looks from Xena to Gabrielle twice over with not so much a shocked expression on her face but rather one of complete incredulousness. And I canโt quite decide if itโs because sheโs wondering what Gabrielle might think and feel that someone else got Xena pregnant OR (because she knows that Xena and Gabrielle are together) that sheโs trying to figure out how itโs even practical Gabrielle could get Xena pregnant. I mean itโs at this point in the show where everyone that knows, hangs around or are even involved with Xena and Gabrielle know the truth about them. So because of the ambiguity of the writing, itโs hard to deduce whether the way Amarice reacts to the information is because she knows about them and is processing the practicality of Gabrielleโs involvement or because she knows about them and is concerned about Gabrielle processing the information if it was somebody else. Because you seeโฆ anything can happen in this wacky show and therefore women getting other women pregnant is entirely possible. And therefore I think itโs likely that Amariceโs reaction could be either way or even both. Her reaction and expression to me reads like (to borrow a quote from โBTVSโ): โHow? What? How?โ. And just the thought of that makes me giggle. Itโs like sheโs trying to process in her head whether itโs Gabrielleโs baby or not, and if so - what possible hijinks the two of them could have been up to that could even make pregnancy happen. Itโs hilarious! This is what subtext and ambiguity in TV show writing does. Itโs creates and provokes in the watcher many different interpretations because the writing is so understated. Youโre not given a โYesโ or โNoโ answer outright. So you have to come up with it yourself. This is what I absolutely love about Xena. The ambiguity and subtext in the writing of the narrative. Itโs fucking brilliant the way they do it. The way they get passed the censorship of same-sex romantic/sexual implications. Itโs ingeniousness.
