FIL was conceived in 2014, and raised $205Million in an ICO during 2017, finally launching in October of 2020. The blockchain uses proof of regulation and proof of spacetime for security and consensus. Another thing of note is that the founder of the project, Juan Bennet also invented the interplanetary file system (IPFS) which the project uses.
