We are launching a new series on food.
We’re looking for pitches that dive into the various intersections of food, gender, and the history of science.
Come write for us!
SOME QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
- How have certain food technologies been gendered?
- How have women’s contributions to food technology been rendered invisible in histories of science?
- How does class, race, and/or disability play into the way we are marketed food science?
We’re interested in a wide array of topics!
Maybe you want to write about the relationship between gender & expertise with celebrity chefs. Or the way empires used food technology to inscribe colonial gender norms. Or maybe the gendered marketing of various meal-kit companies.
There are no restrictions on time period or geographic region. (In fact, we encourage pitches on topics outside of the US and Europe.) As long as you can tie together food with gender and the history of science, we’ll consider your pitch.
We especially encourage writers from minoritized and marginalized communities to send us a pitch. We also enjoy working with newer writers and scholars moving toward public writing.
