Our office is closed, but we're still working! Writers, please pitch us or reach out. We are always looking for essays, opinion, short to mid length features on LGBTQ2S politics, culture, arts, community, health, relationships.
COMPENSATION:
Our rates are based on a number of factors: word length, deadline and complexity of research and reporting, so not every assignment will get the same fee. For instance, we would increase the fee for a story requiring a very fast turnaround. Or we would pay more for a story that required intensive reporting.
With that in mind, here are our base rates as a guideline: $200-$300 for a short personal essay requiring no reporting or research, or for a very short Q&A. $400-$650 for a short to mid length feature with simple or straightforward reporting/research (up to about 800 words); or for a longer Q&A; or for mid-length essay or analysis piece with some research; $650-$800 for longer and/or more complex versions of the previous types of stories. $800 and up for more deeply reported and complex features and analysis pieces. The maximum length of story we run is about 1500 words.
LOCATION:
We are based in Canada but more than half our audience is in the U.S. and we also have a small but mighty readership in the U.K. and Australia. We cover LGBTQ+ issues, politics, culture and health with a global perspective. So, we welcome contributors and stories from everywhere. We ask that potential contributors look at our site first to familiarize themselves with our voice and tone, and the types of formats we produce.
