Scholars, faculty, graduate students wanted for writing partnerships (religion) | $1,250 per article

Faithfully Magazine is a  fresh, bold, and exciting news and culture publication centering on  Christian communities of color. Their mission is to amplify  conversations, issues, and events affecting diverse communities via faithfullymagazine.com and a weekly newsletter. 

The  readership is at least 60% women and predominantly White, Black,  Hispanic, and Asian Christians. Most readers have attended grad school,  are in their mid-20s to mid-40s, are politically active, and regularly  attend church.

CURRENT PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Sacred  Writes is now accepting applications from scholars for three funded  partnerships with Faithfully Magazine. Applicants must have training in  religious studies, related field. This partnership is open to faculty,  independent scholars, and graduate students. Priority deadline for  applications is 28 April 2020.

Scope

Faithfully  Magazine will host up to three partnerships to write articles on  different topics for their online platform. Each of the three scholars  selected will write one article. Topics might include:

“Spotlight”

This  article would focus on a topic for which white Christians/churches have  received mainstream media coverage but Christians/churches of color  have not. Subject is open to any topic in the scholar’s area expertise.  One possibility would be to write about sexual abuse in Black churches.

“Forgotten History”

This  article would discuss figures and events centered on Christians of  color usually relegated to the background or margins in history and  storytelling. Faithfully Magazine currently publishes pieces like this  in a section they call “Remember,” but hopes that a scholar could go  deeper.

“White Supremacy as Normative”

This  article would focus on how and why certain racist practices and  preferences are seen as normative in Christians institutions.

The  scholars selected for these partnerships will work closely with  Faithfully Magazine’s staff on the framing and editing of the article.  Final articles should range between 2000-2500 words. Articles should be  submitted to Faithfully Magazine no later than 15 July 2020. Sacred  Writes will compensate each scholar with a $1250 stipend for their time,  expertise, and labor.
