Pitches wanted (technology, politics, nationalism) | $1.50 per word

I assign and edit for the magazine and website. Our rates are generally $1.50/word for reported pieces, with fair expenses—although obviously travel is curtailed at the moment.
Each bi-monthly issue is arranged around a theme.
September's is Nationalism—the intersection of technology, state power and geopolitics (think global conflict/cooperation on covid, China vs the US, Russian misinformation, etc). We're almost done filling the book but I am really looking for a great profile of somebody who is doing something interesting around covid-19. Perhaps could be a little-known official in a state that has kept on top of the pandemic ("the woman who made Mongolia the safest nation on earth") or could be somebody more visible ("The man who decided Sweden would take a different approach than everywhere else")
Our November issue is being assigned as we speak—that's a forward looking issue (name TBD but maybe "reset" or "rebuild") looking at big problems society could solve but might take the next 10-50 years to do so. Looking for all kinds of large and small ideas, the people who are thinking about how to tackle some of the intractable issues we're surrounded by (anything from misinformation to space exploration) and the problems they're going to encounter— and create— along the way
As always, we take a scientific, technological, evidence-based lens to ideas, but I'm happy to discuss possibilities.
