Added 2020-06-16 15:51:56 +0000 UTCWe are a great outlet for health stories that could use a strong focus on science—our readers love getting into the weeds on health and mental health, how the brain and body work, etc. We're still doing a ton of coronavirus coverage, of course, but dipping toes outside that pool.
My recommendation is always that folks spend a good amount of time poking around the site to see what we do. Strong angles—especially those that question conventional wisdom or that scratch a curiosity itch for readers—really help. Very sorry to report that topics around fertility/pregnancy/parenting don't do well for us.
Pay varies by the scope of the story but we're generally right around $1/word.
We definitely take pitches from writers anywhere in the world, although because we have a largely American audience, it can't be too specific/niche that it wouldn't be pretty directly applicable to folks here.
