Contributor / Writer wanted (food security / access) | $15,000 for up to 12 stories

We are looking for a freelance writer to contribute primarily to its  news service, with a focus on food security and food access  issues. That includes food banks, federal programs (SNAP, WIC, school  nutrition), state food programs and charities addressing these issues.  Demand for these services is rising dramatically during the Covid-19  pandemic and we want consistent coverage of the issue. For this project,  we will commission up to a dozen stories, from short to more in-depth  items, with a total freelance writing budget of $15,000. The reporter  should be able to write compelling policy stories and features, conduct  newsmaker interviews, and produce engaging analysis, with a premium on  breaking news. We have no geographic requirements, but the reporter  should be well-versed in policy developments in Washington, D.C. Please  note that this is an independent contractor position, not a full-time  staff position, and does not include benefits.

We  expect you to have at least two to five years of journalism experience  in areas that ideally would include poverty, income inequality, and/or  food access.
