Our subject matter covers everything from history to cuisine to travel across Louisiana and Mississippi—travel extending a bit beyond that. We do ask that writers review our site before pitching just to get an idea of our typical style, keeping in mind that we are always open to considering new ideas. Our upcoming issues will loosely be themed as the following, if that helps people to frame their pitches:
- September: Performing Arts
- October: Myths and Legends
- November: Visual Arts
- December: Hearth & Home
- January: Health & Wellness/ New Beginnings
- February: People & Their Passions
Within each issue, we also have a "Features" section, a "Cuisine" section, a "Culture" section, and an "Escapes" (travel) section.
OUR RATES ARE *GENERALLY* AS FOLLOWS:
- Articles 800-1000 words (personal essays or book reviews)— $175
- Features 1200-1600 words (usually reported or researched)—$200
- In-Depth Features 1600 or more words—$250
- Travel writing 1600 or more words—starting at $250 with additional compensation depending on time required, mileage, and other expenses. In some cases we'll book the stay.
Photoshoots—$100 + $20/image published plus mileage over 30 miles (photographers retain all rights to images, we simply ask for first right of publication)
Using a writer's images—$20/image
