We seek stories on how abolitionists are organizing to intervene in every day violence and other harms without the police and without reproducing the harmful logics of policing. More info on pitching us below:
As for compensation, we don’t have rates because we encourage writers to tel us how much the piece is worth to them, in-part based on how much work they put into it (interviews, research, FOIA, etc.) So it really varies widely and I would tell people to keep that in mind.
This year we’ve paid anywhere from $150-$800 for a story. However that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t pay more if we wanted the story badly enough.
My only other suggestions would be that we are looking for reported pieces—hard news—and not essays. Also please take a look at our freelance submission guidelines on the site before pitching us.
