I'm still getting settled but figured now was as good a time as any to point out we take freelance pitches and would love to hear from you. In particular, I want to step up our coverage of stuff that’s either affecting or coming out of the Black community.
I’d really love to hear from Black freelancers in Nola and the surrounding parishes. Racial justice stories would be great, but honestly anything. I’m not trying to pigeonhole black writers into the “Black beat,” especially since Blackness runs through this whole city.
So I’d love pieces on pretty much anything involving the Black community in Nola and the surrounding environs. Food, social justice, culture, education, politics, art, profiles, cowboy shit, music, whatever.
I'm partial to reported feature type work, but investigative stories, profiles, etc. are great too. Photo essays may be trickier, but I'm at least up for a conversation about it if you have an idea.
We pay $300 to $400 for 1500 to 2000 word cover feature pieces, and around $150 for shorter pieces. Email me and lets tell some impactful stories together.
