We are seeking submissions! Whether you're a journalist, historian, or casual buff, we're looking for your best work on U.S. popular history. We're especially interested in original work from diverse voices in the areas of food, culture, and travel. But we also love book excerpts and adaptations.
COMPENSATION: Our rates vary widely from writer to writer/assignment to assignment, and much is dependent on experience and the type of content (for example, we publish a lot of book excerpts and adaptations from well-established authors, and generally do not compensate for those). For original reporting, however, we are happy to pay around $150 per around 1,000 words. Of course, this is also dependent on experience, depth of reporting, etc., but that would be the norm.
