The column features personal essays by women and nonbinary writers. We accept thoughtful, compelling essays about a broad range of topics — some serious, some playful. For examples, see essays on motherhood, social issues, television, and clothes. Please submit a completed essay of 700-800 words for consideration.

We pay between $0.15 and $0.25 per word for print pieces, depending on the section and the amount of reporting required. We always work out pay with writers before assigning. We mostly hire Middle Tennessee writers but will consider those from outside the state for some stories. Please note that we only accept finished essays for this column.
