I am now the person to pitch health/science stories. I like reported personal essays, neglected-but-important research, silly/maddening things you discovered while reporting other things. Think a paragraph or two for a pitch, and 1,200 words for a completed piece. No deadline. Payment: $200-$400.
A reported personal essay is a piece where you talk about something interesting that happened to you and also things you learned from talking to other people/experts/reading papers that help explain what happened to you, and how it connects to a larger story.
