Looking for freelancer with journalistic background to contribute to the Homeless Voice (homelessvoice.org), a street newspaper distributed all across Florida.
The Homeless Voice is published in print quarterly as well as on web. The paper covers news related to and affecting people experiencing homelessness across the state mainly, veering into national laws and news affecting them when relevant.
Article lengths, and therefore pay, are varied depending on the type of piece -- news compared to feature compared to profile etc -- and writing capabilities. Generally they are about 750-1200 words and pay is from 0.08-0.10/word coming out to $85-$120 per piece, depending on content. Pitches are welcome as well as interest in receiving a piece to go forward with.
If interested, email with clips and pitch. Must be capable of meeting deadlines and be competent in AP style. If the work is good further pieces are certainly possible.
Must be located in Florida.
