The Medical Writer, Medical Affairs (Contractor) has the scientific knowledge and writing expertise to effectively communicate technical/scientific medical information and provide scientific communications support to clients. The role’s focus includes production of publications (abstracts, posters, slide presentations, manuscripts) and medical information materials (standard response letters, frequently asked question scripts) for client programs. This entails some project management and leadership, working closely with internal and client team members to ensure the documents are high quality and completed in a timely fashion, compliant with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Medical Affairs and publication guidelines.

NECESSARY SKILLS:
Medical Information Support
- Exhibit broad knowledge of assigned therapeutic areas and a solid understanding of pertinent disease state(s), including landscape and other competitor products
- Research and respond to clinical and medical inquiries from clients
- Understand client inquiries accurately and respond completely according to relevant client SOP/ Work Instruction and regulatory guidelines
- Create and maintain Medical Information documents and Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) product dossiers per client instructions by ensuring that responses are medically and scientifically accurate, timely, balanced, and meet customers’ needs
- Ensure the alignment of response documents to client’s global/regional/local labeling and licensing for all the countries we support
Scientific Communications Support
- Provide oversight and project management for writing projects for clients, and ensure accuracy and adherence to timelines and processes
- Write, edit, and review publications including, but not limited to, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts with a high level of skill and attention to detail
- Build and manage relationships with authors
- Maintain an awareness of current industry practices and regulatory requirements that affect publication writing
Other Medical Affairs Support
- Provide scientific and medical support in the preparation of client product launch
- Summarize medical conference presentations and engage in competitive intelligence activities
- Ensure the scientific integrity, quality, and accuracy of all deliverables
- Ensure commitment to ethical practices in the preparation and dissemination of publications, including conference materials
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies
- Present project and professional information to appropriate individuals in a concise, clear, and objective manner, and with grammatical accuracy
- Keep abreast of current literature, emerging science, technological developments, and medical trends
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BS, MS, PharmD, or PhD in a scientific or medical discipline with relevant experience
- 3+ years of experience with the development and execution of publications, including medical writing experience, within Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or within a medical communications agency is essential
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of biostatistical and drug development concepts
- Proven ability to implement medical writing processes and standards
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and electronic document management systems; proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and the Internet
- Willingness and ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects under general supervision, working in a fast-paced environment; adapts to changing deadlines and priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively to coordinate the efforts of team members to complete deliverables
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including sensitivity to client and team needs and appropriate communication styles
- Flexible, adapts work style to meet organization needs
- Motivated, self-directed, and able to work autonomously and in team settings to meet aggressive organizational goals
