Pitches wanted (human experience, underreported issues) | ~$190-$380 per piece

I'm working on commissioning some longreads and things in the lead up to the US election, and keen to platform new voices and stories on the site. Most interested in human experience-led stories that speak to wider issues and solid reports on underreported issues—from LGBTQ stories and marginalised communities, to climate, abortion, healthcare, the opioid crisis, mass incarceration, activists on frontlines. Or trends, analysis, sharp interviews—like how a faction of internet culture will influence the election, or investigating an interesting (exciting, sinister?) activist or cultural movement, a profile of an underdog candidate running on a unique ticket.

We're a youth culture mag with Gen Z audience, so that slant needs to be considered with pitching. 

I am also looking for two US journalists to produce two separate editorial series, three articles in each series. One series is on first time voters, the other is on stories/voices from x3 swing/influential states. Think 'how this 18-yr-old abortion clinic escort in Michigan is using their vote', Or an important story from a battleground state like Wisconsin and what it can tell us about where it's heading, as a very quick example..but more thoughtful and imaginative than I'm doing here.

I foresee them as first-person articles like this to pitch yourself for these projects i need to see clear examples of your work and knowledge of American politics, activism, issues, current climate. some general ideas for these series would be good too.

I'm not accepting op-eds at this time for this project, and don't accept personal essays or pieces on spec. Eail me with pitches and clips.

For this project, pay is flat rate and depends on interviews/format, but at least £150 for shortest pieces (e.g a Q+A) to around £300 for a reported longread.
