Thrilled to say that from 16 November, I'll be returning to gal-dem as their full-time political editor. This is frankly, a dream role and a very exciting time for the outlet. I'm looking for writers and pitches. Details below!

I want pitches for stories that put POC (especially WOC and nb-POC) front and center. Politics is much, much more than what's happening in Westminster and our coverage will reflect that. Full pitching guide to follow but here's a few frameworks I'm particularly interested in.

Local UK community stories

Stories that shine a light on local communities and the daily lives of people. Positive, uplifting tales particularly welcome; think the radio station that offers a home for diasporic communities in Southampton or Birmingham's Civic Square project

National UK stories

Stories that look at the broader impact of UK political policy/events through a gal-dem lens

For example, for a story about the battle to save FSM, we'd be interested to dig into the reasons why 30% of FSM recipients at primary school age are registered as Black Carribean—and how food insecurity is racialized

Global stories:

All of the above...but make it global

Stories that focus on communities and events around the world through a gal-dem perspective

This can be anything from a personal meditation on fluid gender norms in Igbo culture, to a reported feature on the feminist groups fighting Rodrigo Duterte's regime in the Philippines

Rates: range from £80-£150 dependent on the feature. Word counts: 600-800 for shorter features, 1000-1200 for longer features.
