These are not opinion pieces; they are true stories/essays. We call them "reflections" because often, the author looks back on something and sees it with new eyes: elections in Iraq, a joke that seemed fine at the time but wasn't, a bad day that influenced bad behavior seeing a badly injured brother for the first day since he was hurt, watching a son graduate from basic training, mentoring women, comparing experience to Vanessa Guillen's death. So, just stuff you've been thinking about. Sometimes it helps civilians understand us better.
I love when they're tied to current events--so a woman recently wrote a thoughtful piece about her experience, relating to Vanessa Guillen's death. But they can be about anything. Holidays are coming up. People write about anniversaries. It can be war, or it can be peace.
