The 2020 election is over — and Digital Privacy News is seeking freelance writers in the Washington area to cover privacy news on Capitol Hill.
From White House executive orders to Big Tech hearings before Congress to federal agencies buying technology that raise national security fears to reams of privacy legislation introduced by lawmakers, Digital Privacy News wants writers who can provide our readers with a continuous stream of interesting, insightful reports on privacy developments in the nation’s capital.
Launched in March, Digital Privacy News is an independent daily news website devoted to coverage of “all things privacy.”
We are a service of the nonprofit Magnusson Institute in Reno, Nev. The institute is headed by Peter S. Magnusson, a technology entrepreneur who has worked at Google, Snapchat and other Silicon Valley companies. He has a longstanding interest in privacy and related issues.
We believe in “informing you without watching you.” We now have more than 40,000 Twitter followers.

Privacy continues to be a major issue in Congress, as both parties have proposed legislation to protect citizens’ data and some technology companies even have called on legislators to create laws governing facial recognition and other tech out of fears that it could be used for surveillance or for stirring social unrest.
More specifically, we seek spot news and enterprise coverage from Washington similar to what we’re publishing from the U.K. and Hong Kong.

These are paid freelance positions. Payment is $1 a word, maximum $500 per story.
If interested, please take a read of the site and send a short cover letter, LinkedIn profile link or resume and three writing links.
Please send queries to Todd Beamon, Editor-in-Chief, at todd.beamon@magnussoninstitute.org.
