Melanin MeetUps is growing and looking for people who are obsessed with technology in the 21st century, know what's trending, and can turn amazing content around quickly with an intellectual twist. We want people who want their work to be seen and heard! As part of this role, you will be assigned articles to write and have the opportunity to pitch original content ideas to our team.

THE ROLE:

Are you opinionated? We're looking for someone to join our staff at The Narrative, and create thought-provoking and forward thinking quick pieces on today's leading technological advancements. These quick pieces are meant to encourage virality, provoke and/or challenge our community and beyond, and provide new insight on the issues of our time. Do you have ideas around technology that need to be heard? Can you challenge community, nation and world with your ideas? If so, we need you.

MELANIN MEETUPS WRITERS:

Melanin MeetUps is growing into a distinguished voice for the community, creating thought-provoking pieces and profiling today's rising leaders from community for our powerful online-editorial blog, The Narrative. The Narrative's 7053 series has covered leading luminaries, influencers and politicians from the African-American community such as HRC (Human Rights Campaign) President Alphonso David, FX's POSE and transgender activist Angelica Ross, to Senator Holly Mitchell of California (The C.R.O.W.N. Act). We need you to consistently write awesome viral, intellectual content with a quick turnaround. You submit content ideas for approval that are current and resonate strongly with our audience. You know what makes people click into articles. You know how to write great stories as compelling content is timeless. You can work anywhere — this is a remote position.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

You are reliable.
You keep a close eye on your inbox and jump on assignments faster than we can throw 'em at you.
You write polished prose that requires very minimal copy editing.
You are very adaptable and can write in a variety of voices for different audiences.
You know how to write in a breezy, light, easy-to-digest yet sophisticated voice.
You want your stuff to be read by millions of people.
You can express yourself with memes and other images.
You write eye-catching headlines without resorting to clickbait.
You live online and speak social media.
You caught the the mistake in this sentence.
You are able to learn new platforms with ease

PAY/ESSAY:

Staff Writer can expect an average of 3-4 essays per month. Each essay will vary in word count ranging from 300-500 words. Each word will be around $0.10. The pay will be dependent on word count within each essay completed.
