Are you a journalist or writer with an environmental story to tell? We want to hear from you! Here's a thread with some examples of previous work we've loved. (We pay!) Submit your pitches here.
- We are looking for well-researched stories which fit our remit of eco news and green views. This is a great example by Lottie Limb about a fascinating project. We love this piece because it combines animals with a super important initiative. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/11/16/how-dogs-are-using-their-special-powers-to-help-us-save-water
- Here's another great story by Chermaine Lee about an innovative tech idea, used to create a solution around clean energy. It's a really fun piece, centred on a project within the Netherlands with a strong emphasis on solving an environmental issue. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/11/21/the-power-of-energy-how-dancing-and-walking-can-light-up-a-city
- But stories don't have to be Europe-centric, as long as we bear in mind that our readers are mostly in Europe. This is a fabulous and important piece by Anmor Irfan on flooding in Karachi, looking at what led to the city's current situation. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/09/07/why-is-karachi-drowning-and-could-we-have-prevented-it-
- Sometimes we publish pieces with a strong personal or emotional hook. One of our favourite pieces, by Tianna Johnson, looks at the complicated relationship between Blackness and veganism through Tianna's own experiences. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/10/12/the-complicated-relationship-between-blackness-and-veganism
- We also like stories which tackle a big issue by focusing on an individual experience. This article by Laura Sanders is about a Romanian garment worker who broke the silence over pay cuts from big brands. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/11/14/one-romanian-garment-worker-breaks-her-silence-on-covid-19-pay-cuts
- And we love opinion pieces too! In the midst of the Boohoo scandal, Frankie Leach penned this fabulous op-ed for us, looking at how exploitation is at the heart of the fast fashion industry. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/07/10/exploitation-and-sweatshops-are-at-the-core-of-fast-fashion-it-s-time-to-dismantle-the-sys
- If you've started your own movement or project, and want to share your experience - there's room for this too. Another recent favourite is this piece by Francisca Rockey on why she founded the brilliant Black Geographers. https://www.euronews.com/living/2020/10/03/hidden-faces-why-i-launched-a-movement-for-black-people-in-geography
We have heaps more amazing examples of work from our staffers and freelance contributions on our website (http://euronews.com/living). We are so excited to hear from you, using our new pitching form here
Our standard rates are €180 for features (around ~800 words) and €100 for opinion pieces.
