The Duckbill Group is starting to ramp up our content creation pace and draw a larger, broader audience to our flagship media publication, Last Week in AWS. To help with this growth, we are looking for part-time contract content writers to join our team. And yes, you'll be getting the by-line on all articles you write!

This role would be perfect for a DevOps Engineer or Software Engineer looking for freelance work on the side, as the technical experience will help ensure your articles are high-quality and incredibly useful to readers.

While Last Week in AWS is known for the snarky, hilarious pontifications of Corey Quinn, you aren't required to rise to that level--but bonus points if you can! We are ultimately looking for someone with their own personality that may even grow their own loyal following with our readers.

With time, this role may grow into something larger as well, whether it's in our Marketing team, Client Services, or elsewhere. We’re a small company so there are always lots of challenges to work on.

We will be assigning you a running list of articles to write for the Last Week in AWS blog, which you may write in any order you desire with approval from our Content Manager. We may occasionally assign longer-form content, along with other content ideas you may come up with yourself. We generally expect an average of 1-2 articles per week, but you’re free to do as many as you’d like.

All of our article ideas are researched beforehand with content briefs written up by our Content Manager. You will need to research the topic well enough to write an article on it, ensuring that all points identified in the content brief are adequately met.

You'll be working closely with many people in the company, from executives to other contractors, to ensure all content you write is of the best quality possible and gets published in a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS

Native English speaker and writer or a native-level of fluency
Experience with AWS services, infrastructure, and systems architecture
Plenty of experience with writing articles/blog posts. You will need to be a great writer for this role.

BENEFITS

Compensation is $450 per article for a standard article (<1500 words), with longer articles negotiated per piece.

This is a part-time contractor role. This role is not eligible for benefits.

This contractor role is available to candidates worldwide, though we give preference to people within the GMT-8 to GMT-3 range of timezones for ease of communication.
