We are thrilled to announce that we are commissioning a bunch of new religion content to kickstart 2021. We're looking for it all—religion and food, religion and fashion, religion and the environment, religion and the arts. We would love to see deep dives into historical moments in religious history that don’t get enough love, researched op-eds, and detailed breakdowns of religious references on beloved TV shows. We want your cold takes on emerging theological divisions, how surprising segments of society are finding new faith in a changing world, and niche stories about developments in smaller religious subgroups.
We’re not looking for: Sermons, Q+As, interviews, profiles outside our specific categories, book reviews, or slightly modified college term papers. We love theology as much as the next group of religious aficionados, but coursework is almost never going to yield a strong match for the site.
Before you pitch, check out our slightly more formal categories of submission below.
Pitches should summarize the story in under 300 words and include proposed contacts and links to previously published work. Write ‘freelance pitch’ in the subject line, along with a proposed headline for your potential article. If the story is particularly time-sensitive then indicate that as well. If you are a new writer, please send along any examples of writing which you think showcase your skill. (No poetry or fiction, please.)
We regret that we are not able to respond to all pitches. All stories are paid! Rates depend on length, genre, and extensiveness of sourcing.
