We publish as a monthly magazine, so we start thinking about each issue a few months in advance. Have an idea now for summer 2021? Great. Send it to us. But because we are an online magazine, we can occasionally squeeze something in sooner if it seems especially timely.

We run several types of articles. Our most common: 1) Feature articles, which are originally researched or reported pieces. 2) Perspective pieces, which are often opinion pieces based on one's expertise or experiences. 3) Reviews of TV shows/films/books. 4) Personal essays

The few personal essays we run are often about an experience that has broad resonance that offers insight or analysis about a social issue and isn't trying to proselytize. (We never run "Here is how I found religion" pieces).

For feature articles, perspective pieces, and reviews, please email us the idea, what you'll need to do (or have already done) to write the piece, & why you're the person to do it. You can include links to clips if you have them. For personal essays, send a completed essay.

The best pitches are the ones where we can visualize the article, why it is important, and what readers will glean from it.

Our readers expect our articles to offer sophisticated but accessible insights about religion and the world. This allows writers to go deeper than they might in other publications. Our readers expect nuance, historical context, and vivid writing.
