Art Critics wanted | ~10 cents per word

FF2 Media® LLC is an all-women team of award-winning arts critics. Prior to quarantine, we reviewed every film written &/or directed by a woman that had a commercial release in a Manhattan theatre. We are currently expanding our coverage to women’s participation in other arts within three main categories: Applied Arts, Performing Arts and Visual Arts.

Applied Artists: Artists who specialize in creating a performance space by designing costumes, lighting, makeup &/or sets, plus cinematographers, composers, playwrights/screenwriters, scenographers, etc.

Performing Artists: Artists who specialize either on stage or behind-the-scenes in the presentation of concert music, dance, film, oral storytelling, spoken word poetry, theater, etc.

Visual Artists: Artists who specialize in creating work intended for exhibit in galleries and museums as well as commercial and religious spaces (etc) including ceramics, fibers, mosaics, murals, painting, photography, sculpture, stained glass, etc.

FF2 is seeking diverse & experienced women-identifying arts critics to join our expanding team of independent contractors.

RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THE COVERAGE OF WOMEN ARTISTS:

• Critically analyze a variety of art forms.
• Write reviews plus features, interviews, etc.
• Pitch self-generated ideas to increase FF2 visibility.
• Research, write, and post pieces to our FF2 website.
• Self-promote pieces on social media in conjunction with FF2’s promotional efforts.
• Work with consideration for others on our diverse and growing team.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

• Demonstrated proficiency in writing/editing.
• Passion for/experience with working in arts & entertainment.
• Ability to pitch work to us as well as to prospective partners, interview subjects, etc.
• Ability to meet deadlines for assignments & self-pitched projects.
• Experience with WordPress preferred.
• Established social media presence preferred.

COMPENSATION

• FF2’s standard compensation for senior writers with 5+ years of documented experience is $100 per ~ 1,000 word post ($50 per ~ 500 word post).
• FF2’s standard compensation for junior writers with under 5 years of documented experience is $50 per ~ 1,000 word post ($25 per ~ 500 word post).
• Compensation may be adjusted upward by mutual agreement based on the complexity of the assignment &/or the estimated time required to complete it.

ABOUT US

FF2 is an award-winning all-women team of critics who, prior to quarantine, used to review every film either written &/or directed by a woman that had a commercial release in a Manhattan theatre—regardless of genre, language, nation of origin, or subject matter. We also covered film festivals, re-releases and retrospectives as time permitted.

FF2 has been represented at prominent film events such as the Academy Awards, the Athena Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival. FF2 has contributors from all around the world. We are currently expanding to cover additional art forms that fall within the categories of applied arts, visual arts, and performing arts.

As FF2 critics, we represent the receiving end of the art being created by women artists. We believe that women artists are all around us, searching for their audience. Our goal is to serve as curators who nurture the necessary handshake between women artists and women in the audience. Through our coverage of art made by women, we show our commitment to the “International SWANs” agenda = Support Women Artists Now.
