WallStreetZen is a fast-growing stock analysis startup with a content strategy that differentiates itself by publishing a smaller number of articles, but at a much higher quality.

We create content around educational, ever-green topics related to stock analysis - rather than ongoing stock analysis or news coverage. We aim to break down complex topics related to fundamental investing and make them easy to understand, without oversimplifying and losing the nuance.

FOR EXAMPLE:

The nuances around ROE and how it can fit into an investor’s research workflow.
The strengths and weaknesses of Discounted Cash Flow Analysis in valuing stocks
What is a “good” PE ratio - but not just an oversimplification that provides a general range, but an in-depth look at the strengths and weaknesses of the ratio, and how it fits into the bigger picture.

We’re just getting going with our content strategy but the founder - yeah that’s me...awkwardly writing about myself in the 3rd person ;) - has 10 years of experience in content driven businesses, so we have a very specific content approach in mind.

Our team is 100% remote. Our users are worldwide, but most are in the U.S and at the moment we focus on the U.S. stock market.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for writers who have a strong background in finance and analyzing companies. A formal credential (CFA, CPA etc) is a plus, but certainly not required.

Even more importantly, we’re looking for a writer who cares deeply about providing original insights to the reader - including reaching out to experts for additional color when appropriate.

We believe that quality content comes from being able to identify reader pain points and then gathering information from experts who are able to address these pain points in detail.

We don’t want our writers to simply rely on their existing knowledge of investing (although having a strong foundation here is important) or Googling around to come up with the ideas inside of each piece by themselves, we want them to go deeper and do additional research (including talking to other experts) to provide deep insight into the reader’s query.

We want each piece you produce to be the best “answer” on that topic.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a writer who is passionate and extremely curious about long-term stock investing (not trading) and business
You should deeply understand concepts like discounted cash flow analysis, financial ratios, analyzing financial statements etc.
You must be data driven and have a healthy disdain for hype and B.S. We don’t write “This game-changing stock is about to soar 1000x and make you rich” type articles (and we never will)
You should have an understanding of what is obvious and uninteresting to stock investors, as well as what is interesting, educational, noteworthy
You hate fluff and word count padding - you believe it is the antithesis to good writing
When you read this article, or this article, you nod in agreement

NECESSARY SKILLS

You must have something we call “clarity of thought,” i.e., understand the key points of a post and how to convey them without fluff
You must be able to respond intelligently to editing and feedback. We always provide constructive criticism and expect to work with you to make the post as strong as it can be
You must be empathetic and know what matters to the audience for each piece
You must be able keep the attention of a reader in a long-form story
You must be responsive (we don’t assign pieces or deadlines without checking with you and usually have at least two weeks built in for back-and-forth on each piece)
Must have experience/portfolio showing prior experience on these types of articles. If you don’t, we won’t have a good way to judge you
We’ve found that the most successful writers have an eagerness to continually improve and get better at their craft

WHAT KIND OF WORK YOU’LL BE DOING

Creating content teaching fundamental stock research and analysis concepts
Writing objective, in-depth comparisons of our product with competitors (see example here)
Engaging tutorials, showing users how to use features on our platform (like our new stock screener)
Conducting interviews with experts to supplement the arguments in your articles
Consulting on the metrics / models we use on the site, and working together to improve them over time
Helping to research and design pre-set stock screeners, and writing content to show users how they can use them

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH US

Consistent work (fixed-price per article basis)
We pay $175-$300 per article, depending on your ability (paid via Paypal, we will agree on a rate before beginning any work)
We don’t have word count requirements for our posts. Our philosophy is “However long you need to make your points.” But typical lengths fall between 1200 – 2000 words
After writers have written for us for a few months, mastered the process and require minimal editing, we are open to increasing the amount per article
We’re looking for long term, steady relationships with writers (if mutually good fit after a couple of paid test pieces)
Room to grow: If you’re interested in content marketing strategy, there is an opportunity down the road to become our content strategist who will run the content team, get paid monthly for managing our content strategy, and get additional payment for articles they delegate to other writers and edit.
