Writers wanted (NJ arts) | $250 per piece

COMPANY/PUBLICATION: CULTURE VULTURES

The ArtPride New Jersey Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is currently seeking freelance feature writers to create compelling content for its JerseyArts.com Culture Vultures digital publication, produced in partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Feature writers will be expected to research stories, conduct interviews, and produce stories between 800-1200 words. Writers are welcome to pitch ideas; however, stories are assigned by and submitted to ArtPride's marketing and communications manager, who serves as assignment editor.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct research on cultural events and interview artists and industry leaders necessary to develop original content.
• Create compelling headlines, questions, and copy to capture the attention of readers.
• Provide story support materials (photos, graphics, audio/video links, etc.).
• Secure any rights needed for publication.
• Review content for errors and inconsistencies prior to submitting stories for publication.
• Submit stories on-time to meet scheduled deadlines.
• Pitch story ideas to assignment editor.
• Promote published content on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (or relevant experience)
• Journalism experience
• Track record of producing arts and entertainment content for digital publication
• Knowledge of the performing and visual arts
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Capacity to work independently

Preference will be given to those candidates who are aware of the latest SEO techniques and are able to aid in the development of strategies that will increase audience engagement across multiple platforms. An established following on social media is a plus. Travel throughout the region may sometimes, although rarely, be necessary to meet the needs of a story.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary: $250 per/story (plus travel expenses if necessary)
