I am looking to commission some writing for a future #BeamSaber project. Open to writers of any experience level, example writing and familiarity with Beam Saber required. Pay is $0.20 per word, 50% advance, 50% on completion.
BEAM SABER WRITING COMMISSION INFO
Things I am looking for:
- A writing sample showing world building
- Familiarity with the Beam Saber rules
- An interest in working inside the same universe as the Izyan Conflict.
- A 1-2 sentence pitch for a Region or Squad, though I will also consider pitches for other writing pieces.
- Regions will be allotted 400 words
- Squads will be allotted 100 words
- Other Pitches will be allotted 100-1000 words based on the nature of the pitch.
Things I am offering:
- $0.20 per word USD.
- A central conflict and foundation for two different settings: one urban (CalazCon!) and one the size of a solar system (Steel Meadows). The goal of these settings are to showcase what a Beam Saber campaign operating at the urban and solar system scales would look like by providing example Regions and squads that match the setting’s scale.
- The ONLY factions active in CalazCon! (always written with both Cs capitalized and an exclamation point) are the Jovangellian Empire, Adamant Council of Nor, and Exodus Republic Incorporated.Squads that would normally belong to another faction should be converted to one of these factions either by changing their nature, or by creating an excuse for them operating under a different faction.
- The Calazar media franchise has a setting that is NOT the same as the “real world” featured in Beam Saber/The Izyan Conflict. It has its own fictional factions (that don't necessarily map onto the Izyan ones) with their own flags. It even has its own calendar where 1 year is 5 Beam Saber years for some inexplicable reason.
- With its countless spin-offs the genre and medium of the series is incredibly varied and the Lore is a tangled and self contradictory mess (especially outside of the core canon, but what counts as “core” is, of course, its own discourse). Some of the media was clearly never intended to be incorporated into the Lore but whether through fanon, Easter eggs, or later creators there is someone who thinks that the Calazar sword & sorcery musical is canon. Imagine if the Tommy Westphall Universe theory had been running for like 70 years and had managed to rope in the MCU, Harry Potter, and all of Shonen Jump.
- While there are fans of all stripes, those that show up to CalazCon! (a convention that LITERALLY invades a city) are the most dedicated and they come from all over human space, even from non-ER Inc factions (though most are Exodun). The fans are both a critique/parody of the worst parts of fandom, and also a celebration of the best parts… but mostly the worst parts considering the nature of the setting.
- The ONLY factions active in the Steel Meadows are the Democratic Federated Systems, The Church of the Celestial Myriad, and Independent.Squads that would normally belong to another faction should be converted to one of these factions either by changing their nature, or by creating an excuse for them operating under a different faction.
For each setting I have already written a history leading to the current crisis and 3 Squads per Faction. Neither the history nor squads need to be incorporated into your pitch, but it should also not contradict them. You can find the currently existing material here.
If you are interested please email BeamSaberRPG@gmail.com with:
- A writing sample showing world building. Ideally one or more paragraphs showing that you have experience writing expositive world building prose, but short fiction will also be accepted.
- 1-2 sentences per pitch for a Region or Squad, though I will also consider pitches for other writing pieces.
- You can send in more than one pitch if you want.
This may not be for a while, so please do not start working on anything more than the pitch until I confirm your involvement.
