Added 2021-06-02 22:31:38 +0000 UTC[This opportunity was posted 30+ days ago and has expired.]
We are looking for reported features on healthcare and patient trends; personal essays on navigating healthcare and chronic illnesses; and explainers on confusing health topics.
We usually pay flat rates, but story compensation ends up being at least $50 per word. See our pitching guidelines below:
FREELANCE PITCHING GUIDELINES
What to include in pitches:
- Subject line format: PITCH from Your Name: Headline-length pitch description
- Pitches shouldn't exceed three paragraphs in length.
- Include a target word count and deadline, as well as the section you're pitching. Also, please mention any reporting you've done or plan to do, as well as any key research you’ve identified.
- Every story must have a patient angle, i.e., a clear connection to some aspect of getting care. Please make sure this comes through in your pitch.
THREE THINGS TO AVOID:
- Stories shouldn’t be about Zocdoc, so don’t pitch anything that explicitly promotes its services. And tread carefully around topics that veer too close to Zocdoc territory. E.g., don't pitch a story called "How to Find New Doctors Online."
- Stories about wellness that don't have a patient-care angle. E.g., an explainer on how to juice correctly.
- Anything too time-sensitive. I don’t have the bandwidth to chase the news cycle, so I’m looking for stories with longer legs (even for content pegged to COVID).
