We accept pitches for articles and interviews on a rolling basis. Feature articles are around 1,600 words long, and we also commission a 2,500 word interview and a 3,000 word Agenda article for each issue.
Feature articles should address an aspect of creative writing through the lens of one of our main segments: Craft, Creativity & Wellbeing, Career and Off The Page.
Recent features we've had recently have included: Elspeth Wilson on how Covid has increased accessible opportunities, Katherine May on wintering for writers and Stacey Halls' article on plotting a novel using Blake Snyder's Save the Cat.
For our main interview we profile an author with a substantial body of work, who is not currently promoting a new book. Recent interviewees have included Ruth Hogan, Rachel Holmes, Daisy Johnson, Sita Brahmachari and Rhianna Pratchett.
The Agenda is our lead article and deals with key issues for writers. Recent Agenda pieces have included a deep-dive on the impact Covid has had on women writers, why feminists read romantic fiction and why rejection hurts so much.
Features start at £150 through to ~£600 for longer-form pieces. Read the submission guidelines here.
