The Inevitable is still open to pitches from contributors. This is a small publishing endeavor, so expect ~$100-150 for an 800-word piece.
WHO WE ARE:
The Inevitable is a publication for those suffering from mortality. We’re here to help the world
think more – and hopefully better – about death by offering unexpected perspectives on it, useful
tactics for dealing with it, and new ways of going about everything that leads up to it.
Death’s shadow touches everything, so there’s nothing we shy away from covering: from travel to arts, tech to the environment. As long as it’s death-adjacent, death-positive, death-inclined, or death-reinventing, it’s for us.
The tone of the place is as varied as you’d find at a wake/shiva/[insert death-party of choice]: from
insightful to way-too-soon, astute to wonky, the one thing we don’t do is treat death with kid gloves.
We want everyone to walk away with fresh ideas, life-hungry enthusiasm, and maybe some
unexpected hope – better prepared for thinking about the only thing in life that’s truly inevitable.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Journalists and non-fiction writers who want to write for something with a fixed focus, but lots of
freedom. From essays to how-to’s, interviews to profiles one-offs to series. And from 100 to 1,500
words (but we’re always open to more or less).
Artists, musicians, designers, architects and others whose core practice or random thinking touches on,
reimagines, or implodes death in some way.
Curators, community workers, or death-care professionals who want to spread the word about what they do, or get help organizing their projects.
Workers and anyone else whose daily lives are – normally, or entirely unexpectedly – touched
by death (from nurses to morticians; hearse drivers to a taxi drivers who’ve crashed into hearses)
