I started my new gig as Senior Editor a few weeks ago. Freelancers, send me your pitches, especially on math, science, tech, military, logic puzzles + brain teasers, DIY projects, etc.
Helpful tip: Try to think beyond the single-study news piece. Those are great but we're looking for smart explainers, how-to's, and deep dives into trends across our verticals. So if you think a study kicks ass, find more like it, come up with a smart angle, and hit me up.
And by DIY projects, I mean things you can build. We love to work with writers/makers to come up with brand-new project plans with instructions and photos that are super-simple to follow, so readers can make the things themselves.
Rate varies based on the project. So often on a case by case basis, depending on piece. One source/short piece can be closer to $500 if it’s a shorter turnaround thing but if it's an in-depth piece, I aim to pay $1/word, pending approval from other stakeholders.
