MARKETING AND ENGAGEMENT COPYWRITER
Scenic Hudson seeks the support of a freelance copywriter to develop and enhance engaging elements of a series of automated email, SMS, and drip campaigns.
Campaigns include
- Welcome series for new Scenic Hudson constituents
- Sunsetting series to re-engage/purge inactive subscribers
The welcome series should be customizable based on sign-up source (e.g., website, social media, park kiosk QR code, SMS prompt, event attendance, recent donation)
GOALS
- Establish a friendly and engaging “voice” to welcome new constituents and pique their interest.
- Craft compelling (and light-hearted!) value propositions that entice prospective new constituents to engage with Scenic Hudson.
- Convert site visitors/park visitors/event attendees to email subscribers.
- Deepen engagement with new email subscribers via multi-message welcome series featuring opportunities for segmentation, advocacy action, and donations.
PROJECT SCOPE
This project will take place between September - October 2021.
- Review communications and engagement strategy background documents and previously drafted versions of email copy.
- Develop and enhance copy for several variations of a 4 to 5-part email welcome series offering more information about Scenic Hudson as well as opportunities to take action (sign a petition, complete a survey, share content, volunteer, make a gift etc.)
- Edit and polish copy for a 3-part sunsetting series targeted at inactive subscribers offering fresh incentives to stay in touch with Scenic Hudson.
You will be responsible for developing content for the various project components listed in the scope above, coordinating with communications staff to review and edit content, and finalizing the series.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You have experience crafting compelling (and fun!) marketing copy, ideally in a nonprofit setting. You have a solid understanding of email marketing platforms and automation campaigns. You are a strong writer with knowledge of best practices for digital engagement (including SMS and QR code engagement). You want to develop an ongoing relationship with Scenic Hudson to help us continue to engage our community through future email and SMS/texting initiatives.

COMPENSATION:
The range would most likely be somewhere between $1500-$2500 for the project (thinking it would take about a month with hours as needed, not full-time) but depending on the number of hours folks think they need for this project/their hourly rate and experience it could shift a little. We’re also hoping to find someone we could continue to work with if this project goes well so there’s the potential for more projects in the future.
