We're interested in pretty much anything and everything but to be a tiny bit more specific, we're looking for stuff that otherwise would not exist in the local news universe (i.e., something you'd likely not read in the Strib or at MPR). That can mean a topic that's totally new, or a story told from a perspective (personal or otherwise) you wouldn't see elsewhere in town. We're seeking A&E/human interest profiles, explorations of odd subcultures or groups, trend pieces about food/drink, investigative political features—all kinds of stuff! You'll be free to—in keeping with the alt-weekly tradition—write more adventurously and with more voice than the boilerplate inverted pyramid and express a point of view. (And, yes, even swear.)
We're accepting pitches now for stories to run beginning the week of our launch, which (assuming nothing goes horribly wrong) will be August 18. If you don't have anything in mind right now, that's ok. My inbox is always open, and we'll probably have assignments to dole out once this thing actually exists and we get an increasingly defined sense of what our editorial direction actually is. (Similarly, if you don't know after reading this rather vague email what I'm getting at in terms of our editorial direction, I'd encourage you to wait a bit and read the site and get a sense for what we're doing).
